Our Story

A Berlin kitchen, kept alive across three generations.

In 1949, in a small flat off the Kantstraße, our great-grandmother first served what would become an icon of a city in recovery.

What began as resourcefulness — a few imported ingredients, a curiosity, a stove that ran when the city’s gas would allow — turned into a ritual. Friends came. Then neighbors. Then strangers from across the U-Bahn. A recipe was written by hand, folded, and tucked into the back of a drawer.

Three generations later, that paper — softened at the creases, marked with a single ring from a coffee cup — crossed the Atlantic with us. We didn’t want to scale it. We wanted to honor it. So we cook it the way it was written: in small batches, slowly, with the patience the original demanded.

Heuwer Foods is not a reinvention. It is a continuation — a Berlin recipe, given new soil in America.
